Reflections on the Superyacht Gallery

So, the first Superyacht Gallery event is over—and what a great venue it was. Definitely the right setting, although, as is often the case with these things lately, somewhat thin on actual clients.

A great idea nevertheless, and a commendable effort from our Dutch friends. The event clearly has potential. As with all things, we live and learn—and as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The space itself truly felt like a proper art gallery: large displays, open spaces, a quiet atmosphere. As we were not allowed to remain by our exhibits, I found myself doing quite a bit of standing and walking around.

Three days felt about right, punctuated by the occasional visit to the seminars—partly to rest my legs, partly to listen to some of the speakers. There was good coffee, and a taste of some extraordinarily expensive cognac. As for the seminars themselves, I must admit little stood out. Much of it felt predictable—some self-congratulatory moments, a few outlandish claims, and not much I hadn’t already seen or heard elsewhere.

The highlight, in my view, came in the evenings. Good parties, time spent with friends, and an excellent dinner hosted by Edmiston & Company—which was, without question, the standout moment of the week.

Will I take part again? Possibly—I remain on the fence. The location is excellent, but the timing could be improved. Holding it earlier in the season, before many owners have already moved to the Mediterranean, and avoiding clashes with major superyacht sailing events, would certainly help.

Perhaps one day the seminars will become truly worthwhile—and we might even meet a few potential clients. Now that would be something.

For now, we wait and see. Our Dutch friends made a genuine effort and deserve recognition for creating such a unique and somewhat quirky event.
