Tony Castro Yachts at the Explorer Yachts Summit 2019
Tony Castro Yacht Design participated in the inaugural Explorer Yachts Summit, held at the Yacht Club de Monaco, contributing to key discussions on the future of explorer yacht design.
Tony Castro Yacht Design was present at the first Explorer Yachts Summit 2019, hosted at the Yacht Club de Monaco.
The event brought together industry professionals to discuss a range of topics surrounding the design and development of explorer yachts. One of the central questions explored was whether a distinct category of “explorer yacht” is truly necessary. The general consensus suggested that, for the majority of cruising and exploration undertaken by yacht owners, a highly specialised vessel is not always required.
Another key discussion focused on the increasing use of the term “Explorer” by yacht builders. It was noted that the label is often applied broadly, sometimes to vessels that may not be fully suited to genuine long-range or high-latitude exploration—highlighting a growing disconnect between marketing and functionality within the sector.
Tony Castro Yacht Design’s particular interest in this field is reflected in its ongoing involvement with , a company dedicated to the development of true expedition vessels capable of sailing to high latitudes. This includes both custom sailing yachts and, more recently, the introduction of the Pelagic powerboat.
